Dr. Sylvia Collins & CNN Hero Poll

The story of Dr. Sylvia Collins and her life saving efforts to help single mothers in rural Bangladesh began in 1989 with a one-woman performance of a difficult hysterectomy. An army of grant-makers and celebrities have supported her work over the years, and her simple story of a resilient woman has made her a global figure in the fight against human trafficking. Her journey will be told in a two-hour ABC-TV special airing April 29. The documentary, “Sylvia Collins: Say It Loud,” now is available on DVD for fans to see Dr. Collins herself in a new way.

For the DVD, Collins actually has been showing her own show on the road, and the Washington Post has a review of the show here.

Then, from 12:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 21, at the Sherman White Auditorium, an exclusive presentation of the new documentary will be held that includes Dr. Collins in discussion with Michael Keaton. Tickets are $15, available by calling 202-637-7700, or online here.

So, as long as you are still hanging in there, make sure to vote in our CNN Hero poll for your favorite name! You can vote for as many candidates as you want. Voting ends at 8 p.m. on April 21. We’ll announce the results on April 22.
